SCG is a team of risk and management system specialists across environment, health, safety and quality. Our consultants bring decades of experience, professional qualifications and, in several cases, former regulatory backgrounds, giving us deep working knowledge of the ISO standards and legal frameworks our clients operate under, and of how those frameworks interface with digital management systems. We help organisations keep their people safe, protect the environment, protect their brand, and perform better, while meeting their legal obligations and industry best practice.
Where independent verification is needed, we are accredited by NATA to ISO/IEC 17020 as an inspection body, covering conformity assessment, sampling and field testing within our accredited scope. That accreditation means our technical competence and impartiality have been independently assessed and confirmed, so our findings carry weight that self-assessment or unaccredited advice cannot.
Founded in 2013, SCG helps clients design, improve and verify management systems, governance arrangements and critical controls that need to work in practice. Our work supports safer operations, environmental protection, quality outcomes, due diligence, and better management of operational, regulatory and procurement risk.

Clients engage SCG for practical consulting, management systems support, critical risk advisory and independent assurance, particularly where systems need to work better in practice, controls need to be tested in the field, or findings must stand up to regulator, client, procurement or board scrutiny.

Our story
SCG was founded in 2013 by John Smale to provide practical, evidence-based EHSQ consulting, management systems support and independent assurance for organisations operating in complex and highly regulated environments.
John’s career spans senior environmental health and compliance roles in Queensland State Government, followed by years supporting public and private sector clients as a multidisciplinary auditor, consultant and trainer across environment, health, safety, hygiene, food safety, water quality and quality management.
Today, SCG combines risk advisory, management system improvement and independent inspection capability to help clients simplify what matters, strengthen critical controls and produce outcomes that hold up in practice and under scrutiny.
